Terms of Service
Effective date: 1 June 2026 · Last updated: 1 June 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Solonym (“Solonym”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), a privately operated digital identity registry available at solonym.com. By creating an account or using any part of the service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. What Solonym Is
Solonym is a privately operated digital name registry. It allows anyone to register a unique name string as a verified digital identity — for themselves, their business, their pet, their AI agent, or their extended family — within the Solonym namespace. Registered names are displayed on a public profile page at a permanent handle the registrant chooses (e.g. solonym.com/yourhandle).
The Solonym namespace is a proprietary, privately operated digital identity registry. It operates as a neutral registry — similar in concept to a domain name registrar — with no affiliation with any government, trademark authority, or official naming body. Registrations on the platform do not themselves create or grant legal ownership, trademark rights, business rights, naming rights, or exclusive rights outside the Solonym platform.
Solonym enables individuals, businesses, organizations, brands, and other entities to establish profiles representing real-world identities, including through optional verification processes or supporting documentation. Registration or verification on Solonym does not constitute legal validation, trademark certification, governmental recognition, or adjudication of ownership rights. Where Solonym offers a verification or authenticity review process, a verified status indicates only that the platform has reviewed submitted evidence and acknowledges a claimed association with a real-world entity at the time of review — it does not constitute a legal finding, a guarantee of ongoing accuracy, or an endorsement of any kind.
Any legal rights associated with a name, trademark, business, or identity must arise independently under applicable law and through the relevant legal authorities, not from registration on Solonym itself. Solonym does not automatically endorse, authenticate, or guarantee the legitimacy of any user, entity, claim of identity, or claimed affiliation represented on the platform.
Core disclaimer (read carefully): Registrations on Solonym do not themselves create or grant trademark rights, legal ownership, business rights, naming rights, or exclusive rights outside the Solonym platform. Registration on Solonym does not constitute legal validation, trademark certification, governmental recognition, or adjudication of ownership rights. The existence of an unverified registered name on this platform does not imply any affiliation with, endorsement by, or official recognition from the real-world person, business, organization, or trademark holder of the same name. Where a registration has been granted verified status, that status reflects only that Solonym has reviewed submitted evidence of a claimed real-world association at the time of review — it does not constitute a legal finding, a guarantee of accuracy, or an endorsement by Solonym of any legal rights.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age to use Solonym. If you are located in the European Union, the minimum age is 16, unless your country of residence has adopted a lower age of digital consent under GDPR Article 8 (which may be no lower than 13). By creating an account you represent that you meet the applicable minimum age requirement for your jurisdiction.
You must provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating your account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
Solonym does not engage in behavioral advertising or profiling of users for advertising purposes. This applies to all users regardless of age. For full details of how we collect and use personal data, see our Privacy Policy.
3. Name Registration
3.1 Exclusivity within the Solonym namespace
Each registered name is globally unique within the Solonym platform, regardless of identity type. If a name is registered by any user under any identity type, no other user may register that name under any other identity type. This exclusivity applies only within the Solonym platform and does not by itself create or establish any legal ownership, trademark right, or exclusive right under applicable law outside the platform.
3.2 Name limits per account
Each user account may register names subject to per-identity-type limits set by the platform. These limits are configurable by the platform operator and may change without notice. In exceptional circumstances and at Solonym's sole discretion, these limits may be overridden for specific accounts.
3.3 One account per person
Each individual may maintain only one Solonym account. The creation or use of multiple accounts — whether directly or indirectly — to circumvent platform limits, eligibility requirements, early access programs, or any other restrictions is strictly prohibited. Solonym may determine account linkage based on technical, behavioral, or other signals at its sole discretion.
Solonym reserves the right to investigate, restrict, suspend, or terminate any accounts found to be in violation of this policy. In such cases, Solonym may terminate all associated accounts and forfeit any benefits, registered names, or fees linked to those accounts.
3.4 Name eligibility and blocked names
Not all name strings are available for registration. Solonym maintains a list of blocked names that cannot be registered by any user. This list includes, but is not limited to: sacred religious terms and titles, names of sitting heads of state used in a titular capacity, platform-reserved terms (such as “Solonym”, “Admin”, “Support”), and names that the platform operator determines pose a significant risk of harm, impersonation, or reputational damage to the platform. The blocked names list is not published and may be updated at any time without notice. Solonym may, at its discretion, provide general categories of restricted names for transparency purposes, but is not obligated to disclose specific entries or enforcement criteria where doing so could increase risk of abuse, impersonation, or system circumvention.
Solonym reserves the right to refuse registration of any name at its reasonable discretion. This refusal does not constitute any legal finding regarding the name’s status in the real world.
Solonym may also request documentation, verification materials, or evidence of legitimate association with a name in certain cases, including where a registration appears connected to a real-world business, organization, brand, public figure, or protected identifier.
3.5 Name normalization
Names are normalized before uniqueness checking. Spaces and hyphens are treated as identical. Latin characters are compared case-insensitively. Non-Latin scripts are normalized using Unicode canonical forms, with script-appropriate rules applied (for example, Arabic diacritics are stripped for comparison purposes). The original name as entered by the user is preserved and displayed on the profile page.
3.6 Multi-script names
Uniqueness is enforced within the same script. A name registered in Latin characters and a phonetically similar name in a non-Latin script are treated as two independent, separately registrable names. Phonetic or transliteral similarity across scripts confers no relationship, priority, or exclusivity.
3.7 Public profiles
Registered name profiles are publicly accessible by default and are a core feature of the Solonym platform. By registering a name, you consent to the public display of your profile information.
In limited circumstances required by applicable law (including data protection laws such as GDPR), Solonym may restrict, de-index, or remove access to a profile upon valid legal request. Such actions may affect visibility but do not necessarily result in deletion of underlying records required for legal, accounting, or fraud prevention purposes.
3.8 Name eligibility by identity type
Each identity type has a defined scope. Names must genuinely correspond to the type selected. Registering a name under an unsuitable type — regardless of whether the name string itself is available — may result in rejection, suspension, or reclassification at Solonym’s discretion. The following describes what each type is intended for and, where relevant, what it is not.
Person
The Person type is for a real individual represented by a distinctive and non-generic online identity, such as a nickname, alias, moniker, pseudonym, or chosen name used to identify that person across digital platforms. This type is intended for unique identities that function as recognizable personal identifiers rather than ordinary personal names or generic labels. Publicly recognizable individuals may register and verify their established public identity under this type.
Names that do not function as distinctive identities — including generic personal names or common identifiers that lack unique identity expression — are not eligible under this type. Names that function as brands, businesses, or organizations must be registered under the Entity type instead.
Family
The Family type is for an extended kinship group sharing common ancestry and a collective identity across generations, beyond the nuclear household. The name must represent a distinct collective identity shared across generations — not just a shared surname or a single household unit.
Names that represent only a nuclear household, a modern family unit without a distinct collective identity, or non-distinct familial references are not eligible under this type. If a family name also functions primarily as a business, brand, or organization, it must be registered under the Entity type instead.
Registration under this type does not imply validation of the credibility, authority, historical authenticity, or legitimacy of any external references, statements, or supporting materials submitted by the registrant.
Entity
The Entity type is for a business, organization, brand, community, media channel, or other public presence operating across social and digital platforms. This includes both legally registered entities and unregistered public-facing identities with an established and demonstrable presence.
Names that do not represent a distinct public identity or that function solely as personal or household references are not eligible under this type.
Pet
The Pet type is for registering a beloved pet’s name by its owner. The registration is linked to the owner’s account and represents the pet’s digital identity.
AI
The AI type is for an AI agent, persona, or autonomous system. Registrations under this type are made by the creator or operator of the AI system and are linked to their account.
3.9 General Verification & Evidentiary Disclaimer
This Section is intended solely to clarify how references to verification, review, and external supporting materials within Section 3 (Name Registration) should be interpreted and does not expand, limit, or modify the scope of verification described in Section 9.2.
Solonym does not verify, certify, or guarantee the historical accuracy, genealogical validity, legal status, ownership rights, authority, or factual truth of any registered name or associated claim. Name registration under any identity type reflects only that the registrant has asserted a connection to the selected name and that the submission met Solonym’s registration criteria at the time of review.
Where verification or review processes are applied, such processes are limited to evaluating whether submitted information and/or publicly available references are consistent with the declared identity type. Such evaluation does not constitute authentication of lineage, authority, membership status, inheritance rights, ownership claims, or official recognition by any real-world organization, family, institution, or governing body.
Solonym may, where applicable, consider publicly accessible third-party references, user-submitted statements, or external digital presence as supporting signals of consistency. Such references are not verified, authenticated, or endorsed by Solonym, and Solonym does not assess their accuracy, authority, or legitimacy.
Registration does not imply endorsement, recognition, validation, or exclusivity rights by Solonym or any affiliated party.
Solonym does not adjudicate, arbitrate, investigate, or resolve disputes regarding identity, lineage, naming rights, inheritance, representation, or entitlement of any kind. All such disputes remain solely between the relevant parties.
Solonym is not a certifying authority, registry of legal identity, genealogical authority, or adjudicative body.
Solonym may modify, reclassify, suspend, or remove any registration at its sole discretion without obligation to justify its decision or resolve competing claims.
4. Subscriptions and Billing
4.1 Subscription model
Each registered name is maintained by a separate annual subscription. Subscriptions are charged per name, per year, at the price in effect at the time of registration or renewal. Current prices vary by identity type and are displayed on the Pricing page and at the point of registration. All prices are in US dollars unless otherwise stated.
4.2 Early adopter offer
During the platform’s early access period, a limited number of qualifying users may register their first name free of charge for the first year. Standard subscription pricing applies from the second year onward. Eligibility is determined solely by the platform operator. The early adopter offer is non-transferable and limited to one name per qualifying account. Solonym reserves the right to modify or terminate the early adopter program at any time without notice.
4.3 Renewal
Subscriptions must be renewed annually to maintain the registration. Renewal reminders are sent by email approximately 30 days and 7 days before expiry. Renewal is the sole responsibility of the account holder; Solonym bears no liability for the release of any registered name resulting from the account holder's failure to renew.
4.4 Grace period and name release
If a subscription is not renewed by its expiry date, the name enters a 30-day grace period. During the grace period the name remains registered to the account and continues to display on the public profile. If the subscription is not renewed before the grace period ends, the name is permanently released back into the public pool and becomes available for any other user to register. Once released, a name is not reserved for the former holder and Solonym has no obligation to restore it. You acknowledge that name registration is a time-limited service and does not constitute ownership of the name itself. Expiration and re-release of names is an inherent condition of the service and does not give rise to any property or restitution rights.
4.5 No refunds
Except where required by applicable law or explicitly stated in these Terms, all subscription fees are non-refundable. This includes initial registrations, renewals, and partial subscription periods.
If Solonym terminates your account or a specific name registration without cause, you will receive a pro-rata refund for any unused portion of the affected subscription period. No refund will be issued where termination is due to a violation of these Terms, legal obligation, or risk to the platform or its users.
4.6 Price changes
Solonym reserves the right to change subscription prices at any time. Price changes will be communicated to existing subscribers by email at least 30 days before they take effect at renewal. Continued use of the service after a price change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the new pricing.
4.7 Payment processing
Payments are processed by third-party payment providers. Solonym does not store raw payment card data. By making a payment, you also agree to the terms of the applicable payment provider. Solonym is not liable for errors, failures, or security incidents attributable to third-party payment processors.
5. Acceptable Use
5.1 General Conduct
By using Solonym, you agree that you will not:
- Register a name with the intent to impersonate a real, identifiable individual or organization, or to mislead others about your identity or affiliation.
- Use your registered name or profile page to publish false, defamatory, harassing, hateful, threatening, or otherwise harmful content.
- Register a name solely for the purpose of selling it back to its obvious real-world owner, or to profit from its association with a known brand or public figure (cybersquatting).
- Attempt to circumvent the blocked names list through deliberate misspellings, homoglyph substitution, or any other technique intended to evade the restriction.
- Register a name you know to be associated with a real, identifiable person without that person’s consent, with the intent to harm their reputation, extort them, or deprive them of control over their identity.
- Use the platform for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation, including but not limited to laws relating to privacy, data protection, consumer rights, and intellectual property.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the platform, its systems, or another user’s account.
- Use automated means (bots, scrapers, scripts) to interact with the platform in a way that places unreasonable load on the infrastructure or circumvents rate limits.
Solonym reserves the right to restrict, suspend, transfer, or remove registrations that, in its reasonable judgment, infringe intellectual property rights, falsely imply affiliation with a real-world entity, facilitate impersonation, or create a significant risk of fraud, deception, or public confusion.
Violations of the above may result in immediate name suspension, account termination, and forfeiture of all subscription fees without refund. Solonym reserves the right to remove any content or registration that it determines, in its sole discretion, violates these Terms or is otherwise harmful to the platform or its users.
5.2 Prohibited Names, Identities, Content, and Associations
Solonym is a privately operated platform that maintains its own moderation standards, acceptable use policies, and platform values, including principles derived from established Islamic beliefs, moral standards, and Shari’a-based ethical principles.
Accordingly, users may not register, publish, use, display, promote, associate with, distribute, reference, facilitate, advertise, or otherwise make available any name, identity, profile, username, handle, display name, content, branding, symbol, organization, activity, service, product, link, affiliation, or representation that, directly or indirectly, explicitly or implicitly, through common meaning, contextual interpretation, cultural understanding, translation, symbolism, abbreviation, misspelling, coded language, obfuscation, or circumvention techniques, includes, references, promotes, glorifies, facilitates, or reasonably suggests content or conduct prohibited under this Section.

5.2.13 Platform Discretion and Interpretation
Solonym reserves the absolute right, in its sole discretion, to evaluate and determine whether any identity, name, profile, content, association, activity, organization, symbol, or representation violates this Section or is otherwise inconsistent with the platform’s standards, values, safety requirements, legal obligations, integrity standards, or moderation policies.
In making such determinations, Solonym may consider context, intent, cultural meaning, linguistic variation, symbolism, common usage, evolving terminology, cross-language interpretation, reasonable public perception, and risk of abuse or harm.
Solonym may also reject or remove identities or content that, while not explicitly listed in this Section, are reasonably determined to conflict with the platform’s operational standards, trust framework, safety objectives, or moral and religious principles.
5.2.14 Enforcement
Solonym may, at any time and with or without prior notice:
- Refuse or cancel registrations.
- Restrict visibility or platform functionality.

- Suspend or terminate accounts.
- Revoke verification status.
- Reclaim, transfer, or permanently remove identities.
- Report unlawful activity to relevant authorities where legally required or appropriate.
- Take any technical, administrative, contractual, or legal action necessary to enforce this Section.
Enforcement decisions under this Section are platform moderation decisions only and do not constitute legal determinations regarding the legality or illegality of any conduct under applicable law.
6. Intellectual Property
6.1 Platform content
All software, design, text, graphics, and other content that is part of the Solonym platform (excluding user-submitted profile content) is owned by or licensed to the platform operator and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, or distribute platform content without explicit written permission.
6.2 User-submitted content
You retain ownership of any content you submit to your profile (bio, photos, links, and other profile fields). By submitting content, you grant Solonym a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, store, and transmit that content as part of operating the platform and its public profile pages. This license ends when you delete the content or close your account.
6.3 Relationship to trademark and intellectual property rights
Registration of a name on Solonym does not by itself create, transfer, expand, limit, or extinguish any trademark right, service mark right, publicity right, trade name right, or other intellectual property or legal right under applicable law. Legal ownership and enforceability of such rights are determined independently under the applicable laws and by the relevant legal authorities or courts.
Where appropriate, Solonym may consider evidence of real-world rights, legitimate business interests, trademark ownership, or authorized representation in connection with verification, disputes, enforcement decisions, or platform moderation.
7. Dispute Resolution
7.1 Platform-level process
Solonym provides a voluntary, internal dispute resolution process for third parties who believe a registered name causes them demonstrable harm. Common grounds include: a name that is identical to a registered trademark the complainant owns; a registrant with no legitimate connection to the name; or a name being used in demonstrable bad faith. To submit a dispute, use the contact form and select “Name dispute” as the subject. Solonym may request supporting documentation reasonably necessary to evaluate the claim, including trademark registrations, proof of business identity, authorization records, or evidence of prior legitimate use.
7.2 Process and timeline
Dispute submissions are reviewed by the platform operator. The operator will endeavor to respond as soon as reasonably possible. The current name holder will be notified of the dispute and given reasonable opportunity to respond. The operator will then make a decision to dismiss the dispute, suspend the name pending further review, or release the name back into the public pool. Both parties will be notified of the outcome by email. Decisions under this Section are made in good faith based on the information reasonably available at the time and may be reconsidered at Solonym’s sole discretion if new material evidence is submitted within 7 days of the decision. Solonym does not act as a legal adjudicator and does not provide binding determinations of legal rights.
7.3 Limitations
Solonym’s dispute resolution is a platform-level process only. It is not a legal proceeding. Its outcomes do not constitute legal rulings and create no legal rights or obligations beyond the Solonym platform. Filing a dispute does not guarantee any particular outcome. Dispute decisions by the platform operator are final at the platform level. Solonym is not liable for any damages arising from a name dispute or the outcome of its internal review process. Verification status and dispute outcomes are independent processes; a verified registration does not confer immunity from dispute review, and a disputed name does not automatically lose verified status pending resolution.
8. Account Suspension and Termination
8.1 By Solonym
Solonym may suspend or terminate your account and any associated name registrations at any time, with or without notice, if it determines that you have violated these Terms, engaged in conduct harmful to the platform or other users, or if required to do so by applicable law. Upon termination for cause, no refund will be issued.
Solonym may also suspend a specific name registration (rather than the entire account) in response to a dispute, a legal complaint, or a determination that the name violates these Terms, without affecting other registrations held by the same account.
8.2 By you
You may close your account at any time from the Account Settings page. Closing your account initiates a 30-day deletion window, during which you may cancel the deletion request. After 30 days, your account, profile data, and all registered names are deleted. Certain records may be retained beyond this point where required by law or legitimate interest — specifically, payment references for up to 7 years to meet financial record-keeping obligations, and internal audit logs for up to 3 years for operational integrity purposes. These retained records are not used for any other purpose. Any active subscriptions are cancelled and no refund is issued for the unused portion of any subscription period.
9. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
9.1 “As is” service
The Solonym platform is provided “as is” and “as available” without any warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from harmful components.
9.2 Verification and profile authenticity
Verified status indicates that the platform reviewed submitted information and found reasonable evidence that the registrant represents the claimed identity at the time of review.
Certain accounts, entities, or registrations may undergo optional verification processes conducted by Solonym or its service providers. Verification may involve review of documents, business records, contact methods, claimed trademark information, domain control or ownership, or other supporting materials.
However, verification does not constitute a guarantee of legal ownership, legitimacy, authenticity, good standing, or ongoing accuracy, and Solonym makes no representation or warranty regarding the identity, authority, credibility, or conduct of any registrant or profile owner.
Verification decisions are based on information available to Solonym at the time of review and may be revised if additional information becomes available.
Verification is subject to the following limitations:
- Verification is limited in scope and granted at Solonym’s sole discretion.
- Verification does not constitute legal authentication, certification, or adjudication of any rights.
- Trademark and intellectual property disputes are handled separately under Section 7 and are independent of verification status.
- Solonym may revoke verified status at any time, with or without notice, if it determines that the basis for verification no longer holds or that submitted information was inaccurate or misleading.
- You are solely responsible for the accuracy of any information submitted in connection with a verification request.
- Submitting false, forged, or misleading documentation in connection with verification may result in name suspension, account termination, release of any associated name registrations, and forfeiture of fees without refund.
Unless explicitly stated otherwise by the platform, users should independently evaluate the accuracy and legitimacy of any profile, claim, or representation made on the platform.
9.3 Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Solonym and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, loss of data, loss of a registered name, or reputational harm, arising out of or in connection with your use of the platform, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Solonym’s total liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the service shall not exceed the amount you paid to Solonym in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
9.4 Third-party services
Solonym may rely on third-party services (payment processors, email delivery providers, and hosting infrastructure). Solonym is not liable for the acts, omissions, errors, or outages of any third-party service provider.
10. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms do not designate a governing law or exclusive jurisdiction. In the absence of such a designation, any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms that cannot be resolved through Solonym’s internal dispute process will be subject to the law and jurisdiction determined in accordance with applicable conflict-of-laws and procedural rules.
Nothing in these Terms limits any non-waivable rights or remedies that may be available to you under applicable law, including any mandatory consumer protection rights.
If you are a consumer located in the European Union, nothing in these Terms limits your right to bring claims before the courts of your country of residence under mandatory consumer protection laws applicable in your jurisdiction.
11. Changes to These Terms
Solonym reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we make material changes, we will endeavor to notify you by email at the address associated with your account where practicable, and will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Changes take effect 30 days after the updated Terms are published. Continued use of the service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the service and may close your account.
12. Contact
For questions about these Terms, or to exercise any of your rights described herein, please contact us at support@solonym.com or use our contact form. We aim to respond to all inquiries as soon as reasonably possible.
